active as 3Y/ZS6GCM from Bouvet Island, probably for the next three
months. He is with a five member team on the island and is their medic.
The operator does have a vertical antenna for 40/20/15/10 meters but
no amplifier. He is also a newly licensed amateur and has no experience
in pile-ups. So, please go easy on him. Activity will be during his
spare time only.

Pete,SM5GMZ, is going on another business trip through Southeast Asia in the beginning of January. He is working as a photo journalist and he will be underway until April 2008. He writes that he will try to become active as much as possible during his spare time. In January he will stay in Thailand from where he will work as HS0ZFI in all modes on all bands but Pete prefers working on the WARC and low bands. By the end of January and during February he will show up as XU7ADI from Cambodia. During March he will sign 9M6/SM5GMZ from East Malaysia and 9M8Z in the WPX Contest.

Look for 11 special event stations to be active with the prefix LY90 from February 16th through March 16th, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of independence in the Lithuanian Republic. It was on February 16th, 1918, when Lithuania declared itself independent. The Act of Independence of Lithuania (Lithuanian: Lietuvos Nepriklausomybes Aktas) or Act of February 16 was signed by the Council of Lithuania proclaiming the restoration of an independent State of Lithuania, governed by democratic principles, with Vilnius as its capital.

8R, GUYANA. Just a reminder that operators Phil/G3SWH and Jim/G3RTE will be active from Georgetown, Guyana, between February 22-29th. The licence has already been issued and the callsign will be 8R1PW. As there have been two operations from Guyana in 2007 which used mainly SSB, their activity will be on CW only on all bands 160-10 meters. Propagation and QRN permitting, they plan to have two stations on the air for as many hours every day as possible. Their main objective is to work as many European, North American and ROTW stations on as many bands as possible.
